Poverty Alleviation Projects

Dear Adam,

All of us at Saprinu are doing great! We finished our first year of school in April 2011 and as of May have begun our second year. We now have grades nursery through class two with 100 students at Shining Star. We are focusing on building our curriculum as well as teacher training. We use local teachers from the villages and have been investing much of our time and efforts on developing our school philosophy and teaching style. Our goal is to teach our students how to be responsible members of society, to treat others with love and respect and to be educators within their communities.

We finished building a community library in December 2010 and have been receiving book donations from people in the States. There is a lack of children's books available in Nepal, so we are trying to source them from elsewhere. The children of Archale have shown a great interest in reading and each of them have set a goal to read 100 books during this school year. We have also added a few classes this year such as music, art, library, physical education and environmental ed/social responsibility class. Students are learning the importance of keeping their environment trash free and have begun a community cleanup project. The older generations are be taught by example by our students and the important of preserving our earth.

Thank you again for your kind donation to our projects and I will continue to send updates. Please also follow our work at www.saprinu.org.

Very Best,

Brooke Laura
